Your Local Trivia Master
If you had told a group of students a few years ago that their principal would eventually be hosting high-energy trivia nights at local breweries and lakefront spots, they might have asked for extra credit. But for Craig, a career educator with over 30 years of experience, the transition from leading a school to leading a Quizzo Trivia night was the most natural “extra-curricular” activity in the world.
Whether you’re a seasoned trivia pro or just looking for a fun night out in White Lake or Waterford, Craig is the man behind the mic ensuring your evening is filled with laughs, facts, and just the right amount of competition.
A Lifetime of Learning Meets a Love for the Game
After retiring from public education in June 2024, Craig finally had the one thing his career had always denied him: free evenings. A trivia player for over 15 years, he’s no stranger to the competitive spirit of a team huddle.
“I always thought it would be a lot of fun to be a host, but my work schedule just didn’t give me the time,” Craig shares. “Once I retired, I started looking into hosting as a way to get out of the house and mix my love of meeting people with my love of trivia.”
But Craig isn’t just reading questions—he’s a writer, too. His creative spark ignited during the pandemic when he began hosting online events for friends and family. “Writing questions is just a natural evolution if you’ve been playing for a while,” he says.
The "Principal" Approach to Trivia
You might wonder if a former high school principal brings a “hush in the hallways” energy to the bar. On the contrary, Craig uses his decades of experience to create a welcoming, genuine atmosphere.
With a mother who was a teacher and a father who was a pastor, working with people is in Craig’s DNA. He approaches the mic with the same honesty and humor he used in the classroom.
“As a former high school principal, I often had a microphone in my hand in front of large audiences who sometimes really didn’t want to listen,” Craig laughs. “Being on a microphone at a bar with people who have a drink in their hands and are there to have a good time by choice doesn’t really throw me much.”
Where to Play with Craig
You can find Craig hosting Quizzo Trivia at two of the area’s favorite hangouts. Each location offers a unique vibe, but both guarantee a great time.
Wednesdays: Sprader’s on the Lake (White Lake)
- Day of the Week: Wednesdays
- Trivia Time: 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM ET
- Location: Sprader's on the Lake (10070 Elizabeth Lake Rd, White Lake, MI 48386)
- The Vibe: Intimate and friendly.
-
Craig’s Take: "It’s a smaller venue where everyone knows each other. It’s more like a family game night atmosphere than 'bloodsport' trivia. The staff and players are constantly bantering—it’s just a great time."
Thursdays: Rustic Leaf Brewing Company (Waterford)
- Day of the Week: Thursdays
- Trivia Time: 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM ET
- Location: Rustic Leaf Brewing Co. (7200 Highland Rd, Waterford Township, MI 48327)
- The Vibe: High Energy and Craft Brews
-
Craig’s Take: "Everyone at Rustic is fantastic! It’s a bit of a bigger venue, and while some teams take their trivia a little more seriously, no one treats it like the final round of million-dollar Jeopardy."
Giving Back to the Trivia Community
For Craig, hosting is more than just a retirement hobby; it’s a way to give back to a community that has provided him with years of entertainment. It’s about the connection, the “aha!” moments, and the simple joy of a night out with friends.
While he jokes that he might not be hosting the Oscars anytime soon, for the trivia fans in White Lake and Waterford, he’s already the star of the show.
